October 2015 — Higher Education Luncheon

It was a full house at the October SMPS Higher Education Luncheon!

Attendees eagerly gathered at the Double Tree Hotel in Mission Valley to learn about upcoming programs from some of the top local Universities. Speakers included panelists Robert Schulz, Associate Vice President of Real Estate, Planning and Development from SDSU, Mark Rowland, Principal Architect/Project Manager from UCSD, Melissa Plaskonos, Assistant Vice President, Facilities Management from USD, and Thomas Macias, Director of Facilities from MiraCosta College.

Common topics throughout the discussion included various delivery methods of past projects – some successful and others not, future capital improvement projects including student housing, infrastructure and parking, and lessons learned going forward. All very insightful topics for a diverse AEC crowd; yet, one of the most inspiring quotes came from SDSU’s Robert Schulz stating, “Construction is the ultimate team sport.” A saying that we have all grown to appreciate in our industry!

Thank you to the panelists, members, and other contributing supporters for helping us host another successful luncheon!
